I diffinately noticed a HUGE difference in how I handled labor at home amongst lots of helpers-- those who were there to support me. Even though I have had natural labor/deliveries I never had extra helpers and it made a difference. They weren't doulas-- and I know things would have gone much more smoothly if they had been.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06469279668394453822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236303919353195488.post-58489307663797558752008-11-25T00:22:00.000-05:002008-11-25T00:22:00.000-05:00I've never used one and don't know anything about ...I've never used one and don't know anything about them. you'll have to email me and tell me more. I'm going to have our last one and I love my Dr. I would like to try it all natural but Larry wants me to have the epidurals. Let me know what you think. You didn't have any epidurals? It really gets you thinking about childbirth and what your body can do. It's interesting and thought provoking.

You are right about the baby's name. I wasn't trying to be rude either and wouldn't have made the comment had it not been a Hawaiian name. Hawaiian isn't "anything goes" the way English is. I'm a fan of unusual names (Islay) and have always liked Hali. Cute name for a cute girl!Aubrey Janehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12466014710009717840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236303919353195488.post-35463968644217557042008-11-20T20:40:00.000-05:002008-11-20T20:40:00.000-05:00Thank you Mandy! It would have been nice if they'd had a Dr. on there who'd had positive experiences with doulas as well. I agree with you completely. I'm so glad I'm planning a home birth this time so I'll be able to skip all the unnecessary routine stuff the hospital does. I wish there were no restrictions on our birthing options and that everyone everywhere had the resources to achieve the birth they want (like plenty of midwives in VA). The AMA is apparently now trying to lobby to restrict home births and convince everyone that the hospital is the only safe place to birth a baby. If only everyone realized just how much of a BUSINESS hospital births have become. Well, I'll get off my soap box now. I'm not against hospitals or Dr.'s. I've had four babies in the hospital with an OB. I just really want women to be able to make informed decisions and be allowed to follow through with what they feel is best.Cherylynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10683110268816902044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236303919353195488.post-278919584133898002008-11-20T13:49:00.000-05:002008-11-20T13:49:00.000-05:00So I did the blog... check it out. I think we will always be so grateful for your family moving to VA in time to assist us! We still attribute much of the success of our delivery to having you there to support us!Our familyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16896811642084162923noreply@blogger.com
